Reminder: Free Webinar Opportunities

24 02 2014

UAS maintains a number of site licenses for software that allows faculty to create presentations and interactive learning activities. StudyMate and Softchalk are some of these.

Studymate is a Windows program which makes a variety of learning activities: quizzes, flashcards, games, etc. Studymate can be used to review facts, vocabulary and basic concepts.

Softchalk is a program that lets you build lessons in the form of HTML pages that include navigation and interactive learning activities (popup text, quizzes, interactive images, timelines, and many more). Lessons can be packaged and uploaded to Blackboard. Softchalk runs on both Mac’s and Windows.

Need the software? UAS faculty can access the information here: http://www.uas.alaska.edu/idc/software/index.html. (Downloads require UAS log in.)

Apply For Travel Funds

iTeach

One of Title III’s most important goals is to contribute to the professional development of our distance faculty in a variety of ways. You have had opportunities to:

  • Attend iTeach
  • Take an online course (Designing and Developing an Online Course)
  • Work with our instructional designers (Kathi Baldwin and Lori Cheezem)
  • Participate in webinars (Softchalk and VoiceThread)
  • Participate on our Peer Review of Courses committee

Most recently we have created The Faculty Learning Corner for you to access tutorials independently. We will be adding to this blog repository in the years ahead, so please sign up for notices so you’ll receive email notifications whenever we update a tutorial, advertise a new workshop or webinar, or discuss important issues relevant to your teaching.

We have a number of out-of-town training opportunities coming up which you can apply for. Basically, you qualify for travel on Title III funds if you’ve been involved in Title III activities over the last year or are willing to commit your involvement in one of our current projects (iTeach Sitka, Peer Review, Fall ED593). As they appear on the Faculty Learning Corner blog, check them out and see if they would be right for your needs.

If you would like to attend any of the conferences or workshops that we post, send Mary Purvis an email stating the following: Read the rest of this entry »

Wait no longer – the recorded session is now available (link). If you are interested in creating simple, interesting, and interactive content for your students, be sure to watch this recorded hour-long session.

Interested in more training with David? We will be scheduling a 3 1/2 hour hands-on session with David in February. Subscribe to the blog and you’ll receive an email when the training is posted.

Thank you SoftChalk

23 01 2013

Thank you David Evans, SoftChalk, for the excellent overview of SoftChalk. The tool has many new capabilities since we last looked at it. In today’s webinar David demonstrated how to add content, format it, stylize it, add images and add links. He also demonstrated how to create interactive content, including quiz questions. There were some very nice and easy new ways to find images stored in repositories (like Flickr and Wikimedia) and he showed how to insert YouTube videos. He really packed it in!

If you missed this one hour webinar, we’ll post a link to the recorded session in a few days. We’ll also be scheduling a 3-hour long hands-on SoftChalk session soon.
