Our mission is to provide our faculty with on-demand training materials that you need and request to improve the craft of teaching at UAS Sitka. Our goal is to offer faculty support with the planning, the design, and the teaching of online, hybrid and flipped classrooms using available educational technologies. We encourage creativity and innovation.

You’ll find that the tutorials are offered in a variety of formats including:

  • QuickSteps (PDFs files that you can download and review anytime you need a refresher)
  • Videos in a variety of formats (Flash, YouTube, mp4)
  • Workshop and Classes
  • Webinars

If you don’t see all the formats listed for a tutorial, don’t lose hope! We are updating the resources as often as we are able and adding additional tutorials in response to your requests.

Strengthening Course Development

The tutorials are made possible through Title III funding (Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Institutions – Title III Part A Programs). This U.S. Department of Education program helps eligible institutions of higher education increase their self-sufficiency and expand their capacity to serve low-income students by providing funds to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional management, and fiscal stability of eligible institutions.

This area of the grant is designed to promote continuing professional development for online faculty, to create learning objects to provide students with college level success strategies, to increase revenue to the Sitka Campus through increased enrollment of under-served student groups, particularly Alaska Natives, to build bridges from short-term training programs to more advanced academic programs, and develop a process for faculty to evaluate online courses and teaching.

  1. Create layered training materials to help faculty stay abreast of the latest technology.
  2. Develop modularized, online learning objects that faculty can embed in their courses.
  3. Develop online professional trainings and assist successful students in pursuing further opportunities for certificates and degrees.
  4. Work with faculty to develop a process for consistent formative review of the design and teaching of UAS Sitka’s online courses, ensuring that faculty meet or exceed national best practices for online course design and teaching.
